Friend of Little Children

"Friend of Little Children" - 8/23/20

Jesus was the center of attention wherever He went, almost all the time.  That much attention might have changed other people.  But it didn't change Jesus.  He wasn't too busy or too popular for people that everyone else thought were not important at all.

Jesus' disciples, on the other hand, were more normal.  They enjoyed having all sorts of people around.  It made them feel important and, one time, they decided that certain other people were not important enough for Jesus to spend time with.  Those couple of people were children.

The children came to Jesus first because everyone was coming to Jesus.  But, in Jesus, they found someone strong and kind.  They found a person who welcomed them like never before!

Read the Story for Yourself!

Take a sec to read the story directly from God's Word!  You can find it in Matthew 18.

A great way to read it is in the International Children's BIble (ICB) translation.  It's a simple and accurate Bible translation designed for kids.  Adults, like me, like it too!

Verse for the Week

For it is by grace you have been saved, through faith— and this is not from yourselves, it is the gift of God— not by works, so that no one can boast.

Ephesians 2:8-9

Sample Prayer

Father God, knowing You is a great treasure!  Jesus made a way for me to know You, by giving up His life for me!  Help me to surrender my heart and my life every day to Him.

Followers of Jesus should be gift experts!

Jesus was such a different type of person than everyone expected.  When the disciples tried to get Jesus to send the children away, Jesus told the disciples that they needed to be more like children!  Jesus knew that children are gift experts; they are used to getting gifts that they can't pay for and don't deserve.  But they know how to receive them.  They know how to trust.  And they know how to run to someone who loves them.  Those were things that the disciples thought important people didn't do.  But Jesus was calling them into a whole new way of life.

Jesus was going to love them in a way that they couldn't imagine at the time.  He was going to lay down His life so that those who believe in Him could come home to God.

If You surrender to Jesus, you can know Jesus like those children did.  You can know Him as a friend, because, after He died, He rose again!  And He lives now to welcome all who believe in Him into His arms.
