How to Pray

"How to Pray" - 7/19/20

Jesus was doing amazing things that no one had ever seen before!  But Jesus wasn't just healing the sick and raising the dead.  Jesus was also teaching about something called the "Kingdom of God" or the "Kingdom of Heaven".  This "Kingdom" sounded much different than what people were used to.

That's because Jesus was teaching people about a whole new way of life.  And it was all based on how the people would know God by faith in Jesus!

Jesus had come to live the life we should have lived and to die the death that we deserved.  Now, by faith in Jesus, we can be forgiven.  We can become sons and daughters of God.  And we can call Him "Our Father in Heaven".

Jesus was making things happen that no had ever thought possible. Some important people looked on but did not approve. Who were these important people? Why didn't they like Jesus?

Read the Story for Yourself!

Take a sec to read the story directly from God's Word!  You can find it in Matthew 6.

A great way to read it is in the International Children's BIble (ICB) translation.  It's a simple and accurate Bible translation designed for kids.  Adults, like me, like it too!

Extra Time

The important people had things all wrong. So Jesus had to start teaching His disciples His whole new way of life, beginning with how to pray.

Verse for the Week

Our Father in heaven, hallowed be your name, your kingdom come,
your will be done, on earth as it is in heaven. Give us today our daily
bread. And forgive us our sins, as we also forgive everyone who sins
against us. And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil.

-The Lord's Prayer

Sample Prayer

Father God, because of Jesus I can be your child!  Thank you for sending Jesus to make the possible. Would you teach me to pray based off of Jesus' prayer?

Prayer is respectfully talking with God.

Jesus taught His followers to pray to God as their Father.  He told them to pray that God's name would always be special and that what God wants would happen no matter what.

He continued.  He only said one sentence about the things we normally pray about.  And instead focused His followers on asking for forgiveness and giving forgiveness.  Finally, He told His followers to pray for protection from the lies of the Terrible Liar.

If you follow Jesus, that is how He wants you to pray.  Not the exact words every time, no.  But this prayer can help you talk to God and love Him more every day!
